Europa League: It's all ours, whether we want it or not...

So. It comes down to this. Arsenal's annual assault on the run-in, the one that sees us seize something resembling victory from the jaws of imminent defeat, has run ashore on the shoals. Despite having won seven of our last eight, we're still very dependent on help from the likes of Middlesbrough and Watford if we expect to elevate our ambitions beyond the much-maligned Thursday night competition that is the Europa League. That shite-sandwich is already in our hands. Whether we want to be left holding it is another matter. We can't really palm it off on anyone else, so all that's left to do is shove it someone else's face.

Arsenal 2-0 Sunderland: Vote for Player-Ratings/MotM!

After a stodgy, stultifying first half in which it looked like Arsenal were the relegated club happy to play out a rather-pointless match, the second half offered just enough of a glimmer of a hope that something could still be salvaged of the season. Just past the hour, Alexis struck twice to bring his tally to 112 goals in 143 appearances for the Arsenal. Credit Sunderland, long-since relegated, for their stubborn display. Our inability to break them down is a familiar story, and it took some rather relentless pressure to pick that lock. Still, it's a positive result, and one that keeps open the door on finishing in the top-four and earning a Champions League. More on that later. For now, let's give the lads what they deserve in the poll below the fold!

We'll always have schadenfreude. Rob Holding, I'm looking at you!

Justice itself may not have been served, but something closely resembling it and offering something almost enjoyable was. For as satisfying as it was to thrash the Potters at their own ground on Saturday, the result still leaves us a bit stranded, hoping against hope that Liverpool will lose or draw at home to relegated Middlesbrough. There's a long week to wait before knowing our fate. In the meantime, then, there's some rather shameless schadenfreude to get to, so why dither when there are so many delectable delicacies on offer?
